MG – Awards Ceremony – 2010

Second Annual Awards Ceremony
May 13, 2010 – Hebrew Union College

Thanks to everyone who attended the Awards Ceremony at the Mayerson Hall on Hebrew Union College’s campus in Clifton.  Over 100 students, teachers, parents, agency representatives, funders and friends were there to share in the excitement of the check presentations.

Sally Nugent, a member of the Impact 100 philanthropic organization (www.impact100.org) was our guest speaker.  She share stories about the importance of service in her life and explained the parallels between Impact100’s mission and the Student Philanthropy Project.

Students and teachers from each of the thirteen schools presented checks to the non-profit agencies they selected as their recipients.  Like last year, each student team spoke about the implementation of the program in their school, what they learned as a result of the experience, and why they chose their agency.   Agency representatives then told us a little bit about their agency, their interactions with the students, and how the money would be put to use.

Special thanks was extended to several special guests – Fr. Bill Wysong,  Joe StoltzPeter & Marilyn BushelmanDan & Rose GahlSr. Rita SturwoldJim & Mary Jackson, and Sr. Mary Ann Barnhorn – all friends of the program, many whom invested their time, talent and/or treasure in the Student Philanthropy Project.

The evening again concluded with an appeal for students to take what they have learned, to become wise and educated investors and educated philanthropists.  Everyone was invited to become financial supporters of this program, and to identify forward-thinking individuals and organizations that would be excited to see their money pass through the hands of students before making its way to effective non-profit agencies.

Food was again catered by Power Inspires Progress, a local non-profit organization dedicated to helping women learn job-readiness skills.
